What to Look for in Luggage
While flipping through the latest AAA Via Magazine we noticed a helpful article, “How to Shop for a Travel Bag.” Here’s list of tips you can learn from given by Ed Johnson, Southwest Airlines’ damaged-bag specialist.
-Don’t bet on a hard shell. Good soft sided bags endure abuse better than cheap hard sided ones.
- Avoid dainty quilted bags. The toughest fabrics are balistic nylon and cordura.
-Choose recessed wheels. The exposed rotating “spinners” that let bags roll in any direction can snap off easily
- Look for a grip that hides. A locking handle or a grip that’s covered by a zippered flap stays safely in place
- Favor clean lines. Pockets, metal emblems, and strap hangles can snag on conveyor belts and luggage carts.
- Get real. Your bags bulge? Overstuffing stresses zippers and seams, setting the stage for mishaps. Get a big enough bag.

Trees, Trees, and more Trees
Today staff from the Doubletree Hotel San Jose CARE Committee visited Bachrodt Elementary school to get the children more familiar with the trees of California. Along with volunteers from our hotel vendor, Medallion Landscaping Management, we presented to two 5th grade classes and answered all kinda of questions on the who, what, where, when, and why of trees…boy did they have some good questions.
The kids even got to plant their own California redwood seedling to take home which they can eventually transplant into their backyard. They were very excited to care for their new trees and show them off to mom and dad! Not only did we give them trees we of course spoiled them with a Doubletree milk and cookies break.
This activity was a part of the Doubletree Brand “Teaching Kids to CARE” bi annual program.
